You should at least attempt to negotiate. Explain your reasoning (plenty of resources here on FMF for that) and ask for a specific number. Nobody's willing to throw money away right now. They offered you the job, and want you, but they're not going to pay you a penny more than they have to. Make it clear that if they want you, they're going to have to give you a raise. Nobody's going to withdraw a job offer simply because the person asks for more money. They may say no, but that's the worst that could happen. I would definitely try negotiating. It never hurts to ask. I would also be looking for other opportunities so at the least you can have some leverage and an alternative. The more alternatives you have, the stronger your negotiating position.but before you do, be honest with yourself about what you will or will not accept, and what your other options are. If you don't have any other prospects, you might not be able to walk away from the company's offer, which is a lousy position to be in. (I speak from experience.) Maybe you could take the job for what's being offered and then ramp up your income in other ways.
